“Education is not the filling of a pail,
but the lighting of a fire.”
Homestead Learning is a homeschool microschool, dedicated to providing an immersive individualized educational experience for your child. We believe that children thrive through trust and the space to “Let Grow.” At Homestead Learning, our approach to education promotes autonomy, resilience, and critical thinking through self directed education, practical life skills and collaborative learning experiences with children of all ages. We believe that a well educated person is one who chases their curiosity with passion and enthusiasm. Encouraging this experience is a central goal that we pursue at Homestead Learning.
Mission Statement
Embracing Wyoming's rich heritage, our modern day one-room schoolhouse fosters curiosity, collaboration, and multi-age learning. Through individualized problem based learning and Socratic discussions, we prioritize life skills alongside academic excellence, offering a homeschool-like approach for a well rounded education.
Vision Statement
The vision of Homestead Learning is to instill a profound love of learning within every student.
This means that all of our students are declared homeschoolers by the state of Wyoming but they have designated this program to provide some or most of the instruction. A microschool is a small-scale, independent educational setting that typically serves a limited number of students across different grade levels.
A typical day at The Homestead looks and feels much more like a homeschool than your typical neighborhood public school. We join together every morning for reading or socratic discussion and then spread out into groups or individually to work on core academics. We value a long, flexible lunch break where the children can cook their meals, play outside or take a rest when needed. The afternoons are dedicated to projects and skill building until it’s time to clean up and head home.
No, we believe children learn best when working with children of all ages.
Multi-age learning offers several benefits for children. In these environments, children interact with peers of varying ages, promoting social skills and cooperation. Older students can mentor younger ones, fostering peer learning and academic growth for all. Teachers can provide individualized instruction tailored to each student's needs, while flexible grouping allows for collaborative work based on shared interests. Long-term relationships with peers and teachers provide stability and support, reducing competition and promoting a positive attitude towards learning. Overall, multi-age classrooms offer a rich and inclusive learning environment where children can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
We do have a teacher's aide on staff to assist our teacher.
Yes! We offer both a part time and a full time schedule.
Students enrolled in our full time program will attend Monday - Thursday from 9:00-3:30. You may drop off as early as 8:30.
Our part time schedule will be two days a week, Monday & Tuesday or Wednesday & Thursday, with the same hours as the full time program.
We also hope to offer activities on Fridays for an additional rate, if there is a need among our students and the community. This day is open to our students and other homeschool students within the community.
We believe that everything a family does together is valuable for their learning and growth. For this reason, we do not have attendance requirements. However, it is the responsibility of the parents to fulfill any additional homeschool education hours not provided by Homestead Learning.
Homestead Learning was founded by Alison Brady and Jenna Walker, both residents of Gillette and passionate mama bears. The idea to start a microschool blossomed from a shared desire to help our children develop a lifelong love of learning. We have so much to tell you about ourselves and why we're here - stay tuned for a full bio on our finished website.
