Learning Process

Our children learn in a collaborative studio of multi-age learners. Our flexible approach challenges each student with their own differentiated learning plan and inspires them through real-world projects and experiences.

Our Learner Driven Community puts children at the center of their learning, allowing them to create and maintain personal goals.

Core Academics

Children will be guided through all of the state home-based educational requirements.

For the ages of 4 - 6, we will place more emphasis on learning through play and building a strong foundation of phonemic awareness to help them flourish into strong readers. They will be immersed in thematic units that connect all of the traditional school subjects in meaningful ways.

Children ages 7 - 10 will be guided through math, social studies, language arts, and science; but the emphasis will be project-based learning in a multi-age environment. The younger children, when ready, will advance to learn with the “older kids.”

Hands On Projects

Hands on, project-based learning offers a dynamic and engaging approach to education that promotes deep learning, critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and real-world application of knowledge.

Socratic Discussion

We utilize Socratic discussions in our school to foster critical thinking, collaborative inquiry, and deeper understanding among our students. This practice empowers them to actively engage with complex ideas and develop essential lifelong learning and communication skills.

Business Fair

Every year, all of our students will produce a product or service to present and sell at our annual business fair. We will encourage them to find mentors in the community doing similar work for additional exposure to the realities of business.

Outdoor Playclub

Outdoor play is a non-negotiable, essential aspect of childhood. It is known that outdoor play is vital for development of fine & gross motor skills, attention span, social skills, creativity, emotional stability and conflict resolution, as well as supporting the maturation of their visual and auditory systems.

We prioritize outside play whenever possible. If the weather is too dangerous for outdoor play, we have a large indoor space available for intentional free play.

Life Skills

Teaching life skills to children is essential for preparing them to lead fulfilling, independent, and responsible lives. By equipping children with these foundational skills, we empower them to navigate the complexities of the world with confidence, resilience, and competence. This is one of our highest priorities at Homestead Learning.
